Four years after being run out of Chicago, Buffalo-based mobster, Alfie Conte, discovers that an old friend, Gus, has been hired to hold him at a 24-hour café until the phone on the wall rings and Gus gets the order – let Alfie walk away, or kill him. The two men settle in for a long wait, reminiscing old times and revisiting old differences in between verbal bouts with the café’s disgruntled waiter. As time unfolds, so does the story that found Alfie fleeing Chicago and ultimately brought the two men together again on this fateful night. We soon discover that the wounds of their past have not healed, and this confrontation is going to leave only one of them standing. The survivor will be the one who has the best final play in this elaborately planned end game.
